Heart Rate
The resting heart rate is one of the standby traditional biofeedback readings used for decades to help assess fitness. In the course of training, the resting heart rate normally lowers, the result of increased cardiac efficiency. If you have a cold or other stress looming over you, your resting heart rate increases a few or more beats reflecting that stress. As you approach your competitive season, your resting heart rate should be at or near its lowest level. However, the resting heart rate is not meant to be used exclusively as an indicator for anything, as doing that can mislead you. A case in point is during the third stage of overtraining, when the resting rate may actually diminish, making it appear like you’re doing well. Without other indicators, such as how you feel, injuries, and especially your MAF Test, you can easily be misled.
