Symptomatic Foot Problems

Common problems in the foot produce symptoms ranging from pain and localized tenderness, to numbness or tingling, weakness, and reduced range of motion in the form of stiffness or limitation in movement. These symptoms indicate that some aspect of the foot or ankle is not working properly and may even lead to further imbalances. Symptomatic problems are usually obvious and may be due to a variety of causes, including three common ones: chronic muscle inhibition, trauma, and disease (even in athletes).

In addition to symptoms, this type of foot problem is associated with abnormal signs, including calluses, deformities (such as hammertoe), and swollen areas. These signs often indicate a more chronic problem, and sometimes a more serious one.
