Fascia

Throughout the foot (as throughout the body) are thin fibrous sheaths that have great strength called fascia. This material assists in stabilizing the foot, especially in areas of the joints, and helps bind the tendons helping the muscles in their supporting efforts. The fascia blends with many other soft tissues of the foot and ankle. Important fascia is found on the top of the foot (the dorsal fascia) on the bottom of the foot (the plantar fascia), and around the ankle.
