Two Types of Foot Problems
In a very general sense, there are only two broad types of foot problems. The first are those that don’t elicit pain or other obvious problems but are silent in their impairment. These are functional foot problems. I have termed these silent foot conditions asymptomatic foot problems. The second type includes those that produce pain and obvious disability. I will call these symptomatic foot problems . Most foot problems are silent and fall into the first category. These asymptomatic problems are due mostly to relatively minor muscle imbalance. While these problems may come and go without notice, they can also be the cause of the majority of symptomatic foot problems producing pain and disability.
